This means that you can select any type text that you are interested in. It may be a chapter book you have at home, some picture books on an App, a comic book, an online article about something you are interested in or would like to know more about, etc. This goal is that you build your stamina and read for enjoyment for at least 30 minutes today.
Math: Please log into your student account on Mathletics and complete the “Calculate Perimeter of Squares and Rectangles” activity that has been assigned to you.
Art:Jason Carter is an Indigenous Canadian artist currently living in Alberta, Canada. He is a member of the Little Red River Cree Nation. His artwork can be seen all over the world. He paints, sculpts, illustrates, and is also a graphic designer.

Math:Last week in Mathematics, we learned how to calculate perimeter. Remember, perimeter is the distance around a figure. We can find the perimeter by measuring and adding side lengths.
Today, we are going to practice measuring perimeter in metres.
When would we use metres instead of centimetres to measure the perimeter? When we need to measure the perimeter of a larger region.
For example, let’s consider the following example:
Annie wants to build a fence around her garden. She used metres to measure its perimeter. What is the perimeter of the garden?
Today, we are going to practice measuring perimeter in metres.
When would we use metres instead of centimetres to measure the perimeter? When we need to measure the perimeter of a larger region.
For example, let’s consider the following example:
Annie wants to build a fence around her garden. She used metres to measure its perimeter. What is the perimeter of the garden?
We would use metres to measure the perimeter of the garden, because it is a large region of land. Each side of the garden is much greater than 100 cm (Remember, 100 cm = 1 m), so it is easier for us to use metres because it will take us less time to measure. Remember, to find the perimeter, we need to add all the side lengths together.
15 m + 20 m + 15 m + 20 m = 70 m
So, the perimeter of the garden is 70 m.
Activity (If you have access to a measuring tape or metre stick)
Choose a room in your house that you can easily measure the perimeter of (e.g., a room with sides that are not blocked by heavy furniture). Plan how to find its perimeter. Estimate (e.g., make a good guess) and find its perimeter and record your results. Make sure to draw a picture of the room you measured and label each side length. You can record your results in a table like the one below:
15 m + 20 m + 15 m + 20 m = 70 m
So, the perimeter of the garden is 70 m.

Science :When cars, trucks, planes, and trains travel, they cause air pollution. Factories and other machines cause air pollution as well. Have you ever felt air pollution? When air pollution becomes too much, it may feel uncomfortable when we go outside. For some people, air pollution can make it hard to breathe. Plants can also be affected by air pollution. Human activities can damage the health of plants and animals.
There are also conditions in nature that can hurt the health of plants. For example, lightning can start a forest fire and burn trees. Ice and snow can break and kill plants. Different natural disasters can also destroy plants.

Learning Task:
1. First, if you have your "Watch it Grow" textbook at home, please read pages 28-29. |

2. Then, log in to Seesaw and complete the “What makes it hard to survive?” activity that has been assigned to you. On each page, you will need to decide whether the condition that is harming the plants is caused by human activity, or by something in nature.

Health: We are learning about how our brain reacts to stressful situations. We know that sometimes stressful feelings can be good, because they help us act and protect ourselves if there is a dangerous situation. Other times though, we may feel stressful feelings when we are not in danger. These feelings can make us feel uncomfortable. Luckily, there are ways to help our minds and bodies calm down. Today you will do an activity that is good for calming both your mind and your body, and helping you get rid of any stressful feelings.
Learning Task: Participate in one or both of the videos below. Try your best to listen to the instructions and focus. Then, answer the following questions:
What were you thinking about as you followed the videos?
Did you feel any differently after participating?

English:We are learning about persuasive media techniques in commercials. The techniques that we are learning about are:
Today, you will practice identifying the purpose and audience of a commercial, and then explain the technique that was used.
Remember, the purpose of a piece of media is usually one of the following:
Sometimes, a media piece can have more than one purpose.
The audience is the group of people that a piece of media is trying to communicate a message to.
Today, the piece of media that you will look at is a commercial for a movie. When a new movie is coming out, there is usually a commercial to advertise it. We call these commercials movie previews..
- Humour: the media shows something funny happen, or makes people laugh, so the audience feels enjoyment and remembers the product.
- Emotional Appeal : the media makes the audience feel a certain emotion, so they remember the product.
- Celebrity Endorsement: the media uses a famous person to advertise the product. The creators of this type of media will use a celebrity, or famous person, popular with the audience to try to convince people to buy the product
- Bandwagon Appeal:the media uses the argument that “everyone else is doing it, so you should too!”, and this makes people want to buy a product.
Today, you will practice identifying the purpose and audience of a commercial, and then explain the technique that was used.
Remember, the purpose of a piece of media is usually one of the following:
- To inform: the purpose is to give people information about something.
- To entertain: the purpose is to give people entertainment or enjoyment. For example, a fiction book, a TV show, or a song on the radio.
- To persuade: the purpose is to convince people to do something, often to buy something. For example, a TV commercial, a billboard (very large sign) or a poster for a company.

Social Studies: We are learning about what life was like in the past for different groups of people. We know that people faced different challenges. Last week you were asked to do some thinking of why life was challenging in the past, and you came up with some great ideas! Many of you said that one reason life was challenging was because there were no stores, so people have to make all of the things that they needed.
Today we will learn about a different way that people got some of the things that they needed to survive. That is through trade. When we trade something, we give something that we have in exchange for something from another person. We do not use money to buy something we need, we trade something we already have that someone else needs, for something that they have and that we need.
First Nations people and settler that had newly come to Canada traded things. The most popular thing that was traded was animal furs, called pelts. First Nations people hunted animals and traded the furs for tools or objects that settler people had brought with them when the made the journey to Canada. Settler people wanted and needed the furs, and they were able to get them by trading tools and objects that the First Nations people wanted or thought would be useful to them.
The most popular fur that was traded was beaver.

Title: Gosh, I’m Thirsty!
Role: Plant (Your Choice)
Genre: Dramatic/Funny
Description: You are a plant sitting on a windowsill and the family who cares for you went on a long summer holiday and FORGOT to tell the neighbor to water you.
Hello? Helloooooooooo! Gosh, I’m thirsty! These people are NOT responsible. I haven’t drank anything in a week! Don’t they know that water is SUPER important for photosynthesis? Yes-- I’m sitting here by a window underneath this beautiful, hot sun. I’m absorbing all of this energy in my bright, green leaves. Yes-- I’m getting lots of nutrients from the rich soil through my long, strong roots. And yes-- I’m absorbing carbon dioxide and turning it into oxygen. Is THIS what I get in giving you FRESH, CLEAN AIR? And do they-- OH...MY... GOODNESS... is that my first brown spot? Oh no….. I hope they come back soon or else I’ll shrivel up like Fred the Flower over there. Poor guy... all he wanted was to be planted in a bigger pot, to spread his seeds, have a big glass of COLD WATER!
